PLAY ME SOME KIND OF NEW SOUND

Yo! Well another half of a semester is upon us so hope everyone enjoyed their little mini breaks, because its all downhill from here! First up we’ve got some new(ish) Wale, which he released via his Facebook the other day called “Break Up Song” – though not what you would expect to hear from the title, the track is an upbeat play on the classic break up scenario.

Robyn has dropped a digital release on Amazon over the past week featuring 3 tracks – “Dancehall Queen”, “Fembot” and a new tune called “None of Dem”. The collaboration with Diplo, “Dancehall Queen” (previously “No Hassle”) is already a standout for 2010 in my collection with the tech-inspired “Fembot” also making a mark. “None of Dem” is no different, featuring Royksopp who Robyn also collaborated with on “The Girl & The Robot”, and you also get a chance to create your own video on Robyns website!

Also just randomly noticed quite a few remixes from Breakbot that have been sitting in my downloads folder, so just thought I’d post them up as they are all pretty decent. Special regards to the remix of Jamaica’s “I Think I Like U 2″, the French duo have been killing it with the first single from their debut album!

Barbra Streisand – not usually two words that you would associate with Duck Sauce, was one of the most buzzworthy tracks at this years WMC and also has been tipped to be the jam of 2010. Unfortunately we havnt been able to pick up a HQ version of the original BUT this remix was just dropped by O-God, so will have to do for now!

Aand we shall finish up with Aussie girl Lisa Mitchell, whose latest track Oh Hark! has been chopped and screwed by the best of them, with remixes from Yes Giantess and Aeons transforming the hit into a feelgood jam.

The “This Is It” tour is about to hit the theatres worldwide on October the 28th, the CD preceding the movie/concert spectacle coming out on the 27th. NZers can preorder the CD here. No doubt alot of people are looking forward to this concert, the single doesn’t disappoint – in the words of Peter Williams “It’s no Billy Jean” (Not that i like Billy Jean much) (Or consider the musical thoughts of Peter Williams) but its actually not bad.

N.A.S.A. is running a remix competition over at IndabaMusic.com for anyone to enter to remix a track from “The Spirit of Apollo” which will be included in the album. The “Questions” remix of Whatcha Doin is definately a standout – with the LA producer being favoured to win already. Also, speaking of LA – check out the remix of N.A.S.A’s “Music” by LA Riots (completely unrelated to the contest as far as I know). If any of you NZ producers are keen to give it a go the competition is open until the 27th of October, and dont forget LA Riots are giggin it at Studio in Auckland on the 29th!

Ellie Goulding is finally getting her first proper release in the form of “Under The Sheets” with the help of the guys over at NeonGold. She teams up with Starsmith once again to bring us this perfect mix of sweet seductive vocals and heavy drum/synth infused goodness. “Under The Sheets” is a prime example of where pop music should be heading!

WASTE YOUR TIME WITH MY REVELATION

NZ’s own songstress, Ladyhawke, has been all over the place as of late, most recently touring on the Queen of All Media’s The Perez Hilton Presents Tour alongside Frankmusik and Semi Precious Weapons to name a few. She’s also coming back down under to tour Aucks, Welly & ChCh starting on the 31st of October at The Powerstation, and I like how she keeps it real like that. Her latest release off her self-titled album is Magic – can’t say its my favourite from the album but the remixes do a good job in upping the appeal.

Im abit ashamed to say that I napped throught the whole Miike Snow internet phenomenon that seemed to happen as of late. I’ve still got the ingeniusly catchy track Animal running replays in my head, so I was relectant that Miike Snow would be able to replace it. Their newest track “Black & Blue” is less catchy – but still as good in a different way to Animal, especially with the bevvy of remixes that it has attracted.

Filewile has been described as a well-disguised dance act – a statement i found to be true listening to the new single from their upcoming EP The Number One Kid, featuring remixes from Mercury, Robot Koch, Ramax & Algorhythm & Blues. Andreas Ryser & Daniel Jakob (Dustbowl & Dejot, respectively) started off as street musicians – DJing from their laptops and have been successful using their own devices. They are described on their EP as “Soul caressing Bass music, twisted hip hop and straight out partying”.Filewile has captivated my attention with their kaleidoscopic music style, unclassifiable brilliance.

Chester French feat Jermaine Dupri & Pharell – Life in LA

Chester French are an American pop duo who started off at Harvard’s Quad Sound Studio’s (a la Ryan Leslie ).They hit it off with the single “She Loves Everybody” which they packaged in a Chester French condom wrapper! AND they are THAT good that Pharrell AND Kanye had a bidding war over them (Pharrell won BTW). They’ve also just released a mixtape with GET FAMILIAR Clinton Sparks that features the coolest of cool artists: Pharell, JD, Diddy, Wale, Common and even Lady GaGa – even better you can download it for free here .
