Sky Ferreira – One Remixes
I’ve had my eye on Sky Ferreira since she covered Miike Snow’s “Animal” awhile back – noted, i haven’t shared any of Sky’s work since we’ve been MIA from the blogosphere so here we go! She’s only 18 but being tipped as the next big thing in electro-pop, plus she’s already gained dissworthy status being blasted by Katy Perry on twitter. Her debut album will be released on January 11, 2011 and the debut single “One” due out officially on the 23rd of Aug, which has a video out already. Now the thing that really excites me – the remix package for “One” featuring remixes from Bar9 & Logistics, not that Sky is a stranger to big names – she worked with Bloodshy & Avant on the original and her next track “Obsession” with Ryan Tedder for which she just released a snippet on Amazon.

FEMBOTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO
While I did like the direction that Robyn was going with the Diplo produced “No Hassle” “Dancehall Queen” the newly surfaced track “Fembot” which will appear on her new album has a flavor we are much more used to from the Swedish popstar. Much more a continuation of “Robyn”, Fembot seems to be a play on Robyn becoming abit clucky – exploring her womanhood using technological metaphors, the “Digitally chic titanium mama” has hit the nail on the head with this one.

We featured the B-side of this track a little while ago, and NeonGold have just reminded us of the A-side “The Worse It Gets”. Penguin Prison brings the 80′s back with this electro-pop gem, mixing toned down vocals with strong stabbing synths. Better yet, the effect is trebled with RAC’s remix taking it up a whole nother level!

We mentioned a little bit about indie-pop outfit Butterfly Bones a while back when they released their EP “Pretty Feelings” which featured cheeky synth filled tracks “XOXO” and “Ur Hott”. They present us with “<3″ the first track from their upcoming album, which continues their summery feel with smiling synths and laidback vocals – giving me the feeling of the first day of summer!
British electropop artist Frankmusik has collaborated with Computer Club, an electro-house band from LA to produce his latest single “Losing Streak” to be featured on his upcoming album “Follow The Leader”. Not too sure about the release date on the new album but Frankmusik seems to be working his ass off with his last album released less than a year ago! Don’t sleep on this one the beat is a banger!!

Justin Faust has built himself up quite a reputation for producing incredibly danceworthy house tracks smooth enough to butter your toast with. Not surprisingly his father is a producer & composer, paving the way for him to start producing house in 1992! He’s released “Holdin On” with DiscoTexas so check out their website for the full release and in the meantime get yourself some french flavor!

Hey! So I’ve just finished my summerschool exams and it was gruelling, but you know what they say – work is never over! Thats true for Diplo too, who’s just collab’d with Robyn on a new dancehall track called “No Hassle”, I like the vibe that the pair are going for on this track and can see it being a huge hit!
Also this week – Chiddy Bang released their new video for the track “Opposite of Adults” which samples MGMT’s “Kids” and is also a very cute video! Reminds me of the ElfYourself videos!

THE RUBY SUNS “FIGHT SOFTLY” + TORO Y MOI
The Ruby Suns prepare to release their third album “Fight Softly”, following 2008′s “Sea Lion”, which has been described as a “global psychedelic journey”, musically-busy kaleidoscopic pop, on the 15th of Feb (here in NZ) and the 2nd of March in the US. Ryan McPhun has given us an indication that Fight Softly will provide a different style from that of Sea Lion, bassy-er with more synths and organic sounds disguised as the opposite. We’ve had a sneak peek into the new release with the tracks “Cranberry” where the synths and bassy-er sounds can be heard from the get-go while there is a whirring sound which almost resembles a maori “bullroarer” or purerehua. Theres also “Cinco” which he describes as an angry song, although it doesn’t sound so – about someone trying to kick him out of his studio space. From what we’ve heard the album is set to be a smorgasbord of layered synths and complex sounds sure to please the ears.

The Ruby Suns will also be performing a DJ set in Auckland this weekend at Cassette 9 and also a few shows around the country (check myspace for details) before heading off to tour North America with Toro Y Moi.
Toro Y Moi (Half spanish Half French meaning “The Bull & Me” and pronounced “toro-ee-mwa”) is well-known for his lo-fi dreamy pop music and joins acts such as Neon Indian & Washed Out producing “chill-wave”. Though Toro Y Moi simply dubs himself a pop artist, theres no denying the presence of “chill-wave” in his obscured vocals and distorted syths. The album “Causers Of This” is out now!

We’ve missed out on a bit over the last few days because, as some of you may have realised, our site was plagued by a big fat “Account Suspended” message the last few days. Don’t go stressing out though, we’re not in any trouble as such – just went over our server limit due to a huge spike in visitors, so can’t really complain about that. Hopefully February will be a better month for us here!
Anyway, A-Trak has collab’d with fellow Canadian Drake on a remix of Drakes ‘Money To Blow’, appropriately naming it ‘Loonies To Blow’, as a reference to the Canadian $1 coin commonly known as the loonie. It’s from the upcoming sequel to the mixtape ‘Dirty South Dance’, which should be killer!

Following her winning the BBC Sound of 2010, Ellie Goulding is still preparing to release her single ‘Starry Eyed’ in which features (so far) a massive remix package of the track. A while ago the Russ Chimes remix was unveiled, replacing the synths with house piano to turn the original upside down, and NeonGold just released a new remix of the track featuring fellow up&comers Penguin Prison and Theophilus London.

These two tracks from Breakbot’s upcoming EP ‘Baby Im Yours’ have been floating around the blogs the past week also, as the French producer prepares for the debut release on Ed Bangers on dreaded V-Day. The title track ‘Baby I’m Yours’ is a bouncy track reeking of a funk/disco appeal and featuring vocals from Irfane of ‘Outlines’.

Swedish band ‘Miike Snow’ made waves last year with the highly bloggable single ‘Animal’ and released their new single ‘Silvia’ the other day and features remixes from the likes of Sinden, Robotberget and so forth. HELLO, 2010.
So we’re back from our holiday festivities – which mainly consisted of Rhythm & Vines and a stint up at 90 mile beach! So highlights from Rhythm & Vines were:- Major Lazer’s crazy live performance with Skerrit Bwoy’s infamous stage antics including a small crowd surf, an attempt at hanging himself from the lighting board with his mic and jumping ontop of the highest speakers to touch the roof of the stage! Also HAVE to note that Diplo was dropping the most insaaane tracks.
- Pon De Floor also would have had to be the song of the whole festival, being included in pretty much every DJ set that i saw.
- 2MANYDJ’S set on the 30th of December was another standout, easily one of the bests sets I’ve seen in awhile especially when coupled with the lighting setup and visuals!
- Vospertron again doing a live show just after NYE! (This vid isn’t from RnV itself, but everybody goes crazy over these guys!)
