CASSETTE CATCHUP

The follow up to Oracular Spectacular titled “Congratulations” will be out on April 13 and MGMT have returned with a free first sample of the sophomore album called “Flash Delirium”. The song is all over the place, and is a far cry from the psychedelic dream pop of their popular tracks from the debut but you can kind of see where they want to go with this track. The duo have come out to apologise to fans in an interview in Spinner:

“When we first wrote that song, we were laughing so hard,” MGMT’s Ben Goldwasser tells Spinner. “Andrew [VanWyngarden] just reminded me of that — that we thought it was the funniest thing we’d ever heard. And then we got used to it, it started to sound more normal. It’s not a single, but we thought it was a good way to entice people to listen to the whole record. I’m sure there are plenty of people who think it’s completely weird and not what they were expecting. I’m sorry.”

They’ve succeeded in creating a buzz surrounding Congratulations, with an instrumental called “Lady Dada’s Nightmare” combined with what we’ve heard it will sure make an interesting listen..

Hot on the heels of their “Stylo” remix and with their debut single “Opposite of Adults” in the top 20 in the UK, Chiddy Bang prepare their release of Air Swell, the follow up to the mixtape “The Swelly Express”. Featured on Air Swell is a new remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Under The Sheets”, stripping down the instrumental and adding in heavy drums and a play on her single “Starry Eyed”.

Another free release came in the form of “Sleep Paralysis” which is new from Neon Indian, who was also given a hand by Chris Taylor from “Grizzly Bear” with the production of the track. Green Label Sound has just signed Neon Indian and they also offer other free mp3′s on their website, so download at their site or below!

GaGa has been building hype for her “Telephone” video for weeks now, teasing fans with snaps from the shoot of the video – and if you’re going to delay a video so long it has to be aaamazing, which GaGa is nothing short of. The clip features a Tarantino style, also including the actual Pussy Wagon from Kill Bill which GaGa and Honey B cruise around on. As GaGa mentioned in her concert here in Auckland on Saturday night, the clip received 6,000,000 views in 24 hours! The Monster Ball was absolutely incredible, but did notice a few differences in the supposed setlist as she left out “Paper Gangster” and replaced with “Vanity” and also included “Brown Eyes” which was a welcome surprise.

David Guetta is as busy as ever – he’s just about to release his latest single featuring Kid CuDi “Memories” taken from the album One Love for which we can expect the video any day now! He’s also just dropped an unreleased track featuring Novel, who also appears in the track “Missing You”. Guetta continues his RnB influence in the new track “Hero”, combining soulful vocals over an upbeat dance track.

A few weeks back we showed you the promo for the Crookers new single featuring Miike Snow called “Remedy”. SASS & BIDE, KSUBI & HEARTBEATS

So I’m not so good at this coming out of my hiatus thing, huh?!

Anywho, just wanted to express my love for the Sass and Bide ‘BEAST RATS.’ The ever popular rats which have been knocked off by almost everyone in the knock-off business really scream wild and fantastical in this print.. Have you notice a wee trend: I love things that allow you to get a little wild.  I think when it comes to Sarah-Jane (aka sass) and Heidi (aka bide) I willingly subvert myself to a monotheistic belief in their doctrine of fashion and style..  not to veer away from the topic at hand.. the ‘beast rats’ are just that!  They have incorporated several different prints sourced from the hide’s of different beasts of the animal kingdom into one print, the mish mash really creates a sense of beastly grotesqueness but in a way that is so extravagant that you cannot help but love them.  And, they’re a lot more accomodating to the female figure than the previously released zebra rats as they don’t have longitudal stripes that widen the appearance of the thigh, (exlcuding usage of them by anyone larger than an 8).. they aren’t yet avail in New Zealand so if you do pop over the ditch try snap some up as there’s been a very limited release of them.

And while we’re throwing out a little Aussie love.. Praises to the boys at ksubi for the re-release of the alberquerque short in ‘cosmic soup,’ even though i think they should of been called ‘candy’ because the colours just make you think of a surreal candy-trip.. anyway they’re in at superette so you can check them instore or tap into www.superette.co.nz

Just thought I’d hi-jack this fashion post, as one of the music editors I cant wait to get my greasy mitts on these soon to be release Beats designed by her highness Lady GaGa. GaGa has teamed up with Dr Dre and Monster Cable, the duo behind the almighty “Beats by Dr Dre” to create her own line of headphones called “Heartbeats”. It’s really no surprise that GaGa has collabed with the two powerhouses as she can be seen in most (if not all) of her music cinematography wearing Dre’s Beats. Heartbeats by Lady Gaga are a geometrical/jewel inspired in-ear headphone “holistically designed to deliver the soundtrack of your life with clarity and power, as well as satisfy your passion for fashion” I, myself are not too fond of the in-ear headphone, much prefer the circumaural headphone design so Im looking forward to seeing if GaGa will release a full size headphone.

At the moment theres no word on when these jewels will be available in NZ, they hit the shelves in the U S of A in October and range from $99.95 to $149.95 USD so get on ebay and get your bid on!
