DISCO, DISCO, DISCO.. DISCO!

up-dizzee_4

Hey guys! Been extremely slack because of tests and shit but finally here with some new joints to get your study on. Dizzee premiered this track on Radio 1 the other day, which will be on the re-release of Tongue N Cheek that he’s preparing. For now we only have the radio rip of “Dirtee Disco”, albeit an ok quality one – the official track will be out on the 24th! I can see a few Dizzee fans not liking this one, as the title suggests has Dizzee rapping over a disco beat and features vocalist Daniel Pearce, but im partial to some good disco!

Dizzee Rascal – Dirtee Disco

The first official track from Robyn’s upcoming “Body Talk” has finally been revealed, with three tracks already up for offer on various digital sites. “Dancing On My Own” changes it up from the last few releases “Dancehall Queen”, “Fembot” and “None of Dem”, where she dominates the dancefloor, talks up her automatic booty applications and brags about how none of “dem” get her sex or move her intellect. Instead, the new release sees her alone on the dancefloor questioning “Does she love you better than I can?”, and has also been referred to as a “With Every Heartbeat 2″.

Robyn – Dancing On My Own

Also just copped this refix of our favourite fictional cartoon artist, Maaajor Lazer. “When You Hear The Bassline” is one of those infectious tracks that hit you when you least expect, much like this remix by Rizzla.

Major Lazer – When You Hear The Bassline (Rizzla’s Cunty Refix)

Major Lazer – Keep It Going Louder (DZ Remix)

Chaos In The CBD are at the forefront of production when it comes to electronic music in NZ, already having produced many well received originals and scoring gigs all over AKL. The boys had to say about their latest track “Bong Song”“We just made a funky type of thing using Sisqo’s ‘Thong Song. It’s just a bit of fun so don’t bother hating… If you cant handle the vocals then we’ve made a dub for you too!”

And as usual heres some other tracks to tickle your eardrums!

Passion Pit – Folds In Your Hands (Keljet Remix)

LAZY SUNDAY LIST

Wow just noticed that I’ve got a truckload of stuff sitting here for you guys that I’ve forgotten to post so hope you dont mind a massive drop!

Couldnt miss out this huge track from Rusko, given away for free on Mad Decent! Been getting some airplay for awhile now but i don’t say no to anything free.

Rusko – Da Cali Anthem

rsz_rihanna_rude_boy

Yep, more Rude Boy remixes. I’m particularly liking the Low Sunday Edit of this Ri Ri track, mixing up the vocals and with a mix of deep synths, keeping a part of the dancehall vibe she has going on.

Rihanna – Rude Boy (Low Sunday Radio Edit)

Rihanna – Rude Boy (Cosmic Dawn Remix)

1e1626cb-f78a-4910-a48a-2b4dc4e3de6d_passion-pit

Also picked up a new remix of an old favourite, Passion Pits “Sleepyhead”. The remix from Cassette Club is a stripped down version of the original, with the vocals kept minimal that allows the track to transform from electro-pop to chillwave in an instant. One of the best Sleepyhead remixes I’ve heard!

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (Cassette Club Remix)

b7cae8cf

Also with a chillwave vibe comes “Lovelife”, which is no surprise considering he used to rub shoulders with Neon Indian – the two were in a previous band together called “Ghosthustler”. The track “Jimmy’s” is full of dreamy dark synths and weary vocals perfect for a lazy sunday.

Lovelife – Jimmys

Neon Indian – Deadbeat Summer (Skeet Skeet’s Funky Edit)

And as usual a few other treats to pick at!

The xx – Crystalised (Eric Solomon Remix)

Vampire Weekend – Ottoman (Redlight Remix)

Crookers feat. Yelle – Cooler Couleur (Junkie XL Remix)

N.A.S.A. – Gifted (Flirtphonic Remix)

Timbaland feat. Justin Timberlake – Carry Out (Vindata Electro Remix)

David Guetta – Memories (Donae’o Remix)

Miike Snow – Silvia (Felix Da Housecat Remix)

KiD CuDi feat MGMT – Pursuit of Happiness (Slink’s Hangover Remix)

Snoop Dogg feat. Kid CuDi – That Tree (The Soundmen Remix)

CASSETTE CATCHUP

mgmt-465x308

The follow up to Oracular Spectacular titled “Congratulations” will be out on April 13 and MGMT have returned with a free first sample of the sophomore album called “Flash Delirium”. The song is all over the place, and is a far cry from the psychedelic dream pop of their popular tracks from the debut but you can kind of see where they want to go with this track. The duo have come out to apologise to fans in an interview in Spinner:

“When we first wrote that song, we were laughing so hard,” MGMT’s Ben Goldwasser tells Spinner. “Andrew [VanWyngarden] just reminded me of that — that we thought it was the funniest thing we’d ever heard. And then we got used to it, it started to sound more normal. It’s not a single, but we thought it was a good way to entice people to listen to the whole record. I’m sure there are plenty of people who think it’s completely weird and not what they were expecting. I’m sorry.”

They’ve succeeded in creating a buzz surrounding Congratulations, with an instrumental called “Lady Dada’s Nightmare” combined with what we’ve heard it will sure make an interesting listen..

MGMT – Flash Delirium

chiddy-bang-001

Hot on the heels of their “Stylo” remix and with their debut single “Opposite of Adults” in the top 20 in the UK, Chiddy Bang prepare their release of Air Swell, the follow up to the mixtape “The Swelly Express”. Featured on Air Swell is a new remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Under The Sheets”, stripping down the instrumental and adding in heavy drums and a play on her single “Starry Eyed”.

Ellie Goulding – Under The Sheets (Chiddy Bang Remix)

Gorillaz – Style (Chiddy Bang Remix)

neon-indian-silent-league

Another free release came in the form of “Sleep Paralysis” which is new from Neon Indian, who was also given a hand by Chris Taylor from “Grizzly Bear” with the production of the track. Green Label Sound has just signed Neon Indian and they also offer other free mp3′s on their website, so download at their site or below!

Neon Indian – Sleep Paralysist

GaGa has been building hype for her “Telephone” video for weeks now, teasing fans with snaps from the shoot of the video – and if you’re going to delay a video so long it has to be aaamazing, which GaGa is nothing short of. The clip features a Tarantino style, also including the actual Pussy Wagon from Kill Bill which GaGa and Honey B cruise around on. As GaGa mentioned in her concert here in Auckland on Saturday night, the clip received 6,000,000 views in 24 hours! The Monster Ball was absolutely incredible, but did notice a few differences in the supposed setlist as she left out “Paper Gangster” and replaced with “Vanity” and also included “Brown Eyes” which was a welcome surprise.

cover1
We mentioned a little bit about indie-pop outfit Butterfly Bones a while back when they released their EP “Pretty Feelings” which featured cheeky synth filled tracks “XOXO” and “Ur Hott”. They present us with “<3″ the first track from their upcoming album, which continues their summery feel with smiling synths and laidback vocals – giving me the feeling of the first day of summer!

Butterfly Bones – <3

frankmusik500British electropop artist Frankmusik has collaborated with Computer Club, an electro-house band from LA to produce his latest single “Losing Streak” to be featured on his upcoming album “Follow The Leader”. Not too sure about the release date on the new album but Frankmusik seems to be working his ass off with his last album released less than a year ago! Don’t sleep on this one the beat is a banger!!

Frankmusik vs Computer Club – Losing Streak

5623xlJustin Faust has built himself up quite a reputation for producing incredibly danceworthy house tracks smooth enough to butter your toast with. Not surprisingly his father is a producer & composer, paving the way for him to start producing house in 1992! He’s released “Holdin On” with DiscoTexas so check out their website for the full release and in the meantime get yourself some french flavor!

THE RUBY SUNS “FIGHT SOFTLY” + TORO Y MOI

rubysuns-fightsoftly-cover

The Ruby Suns prepare to release their third album “Fight Softly”, following 2008′s “Sea Lion”, which has been described as a “global psychedelic journey”, musically-busy kaleidoscopic pop, on the 15th of Feb (here in NZ) and the 2nd of March in the US. Ryan McPhun has given us an indication that Fight Softly will provide a different style from that of Sea Lion, bassy-er with more synths and organic sounds disguised as the opposite. We’ve had a sneak peek into the new release with the tracks “Cranberry” where the synths and bassy-er sounds can be heard from the get-go while there is a whirring sound which almost resembles a maori “bullroarer” or purerehua. Theres also “Cinco” which he describes as an angry song, although it doesn’t sound so – about someone trying to kick him out of his studio space. From what we’ve heard the album is set to be a smorgasbord of layered synths and complex sounds sure to please the ears.

toro-y-moi-talamakToro Y Moi (Half spanish Half French meaning “The Bull & Me” and pronounced “toro-ee-mwa”) is well-known for his lo-fi dreamy pop music and joins acts such as Neon Indian & Washed Out producing “chill-wave”. Though Toro Y Moi simply dubs himself a pop artist, theres no denying the presence of “chill-wave” in his obscured vocals and distorted syths. The album “Causers Of This” is out now!

lofifnk

Swedish duo Lo-Fi-Fnk have put out the first song since their debut album “Boylife” released in 2006, which much like this track had alot of people raving. “Marchin In” is the first to surface from their latest album (release date unknown) follows the bands vision to create a lo-fi, funky kind of dance music, leaving your head nodding and toes tapping along to the synth-laden number. The video was produced by Mattias Erik Johansson and Isak Martinsson and features an adventure into the deep sea. If you havn’t caught any Lo-Fi-Fnk yet I’ve included some tracks below!

Usually im not one for mashups but came across this one by Objektiv One this week and got a pleasant surprise. It comes off a mashup EP by the producer which features artists along the lines of Drake, Cassidy & Rick Ross alongside alternative artists Spoon, Belle & Sebastian and Washed Out, which in real life would make one hell of an interesting party. You can download the whole EP here but for the meantime I’ll leave you with the one that caught my ears..

PAPER PLANES & PLAYGROUND GAMES

a-trakWe’ve missed out on a bit over the last few days because, as some of you may have realised, our site was plagued by a big fat “Account Suspended” message the last few days. Don’t go stressing out though, we’re not in any trouble as such – just went over our server limit due to a huge spike in visitors, so can’t really complain about that. Hopefully February will be a better month for us here!

Anyway, A-Trak has collab’d with fellow Canadian Drake on a remix of Drakes ‘Money To Blow’, appropriately naming it ‘Loonies To Blow’, as a reference to the Canadian $1 coin commonly known as the loonie. It’s from the upcoming sequel to the mixtape ‘Dirty South Dance’, which should be killer!

Following her winning the BBC Sound of 2010, Ellie Goulding is still preparing to release her single ‘Starry Eyed’ in which features (so far) a massive remix package of the track. A while ago the Russ Chimes remix was unveiled, replacing the synths with house piano to turn the original upside down, and NeonGold just released a new remix of the track featuring fellow up&comers Penguin Prison and Theophilus London.

everything-everything-002It was a week ago that BBC revealed the BBC Sound of 2010 longlist, which highlights the best new music for the coming year. There are 15 acts chosen, with the top 5 being featured on BBC – last years winner was Little Boots, among such other nominees such as La Roux, Lady GaGa, Temper Trap, Passion Pit, KiD CuDi etc. So its fair to say BBC has its ear on the pulse. Everything Everything is one of the chosen 15 for this years Sound of 2010 as well as Owl City, Ellie Goulding, Delphic, Marina & The Diamonds. They’re a British group well known for their take on pop music, defying genres and stretching the boundaries with complexities and tying it all up with dreamy vocals. KiD CuDi is the closest thing I get to listening to hip-hop at the moment. Sad but true. “Pursuit of Happiness” will be a defining song in the compilation of roadtrip tracks (coming soon), and many have tried (and mostly failed) to produce a remix of the whimsical track. Heres another to ponder over:

nasaN.A.S.A. is running a remix competition over at IndabaMusic.com for anyone to enter to remix a track from “The Spirit of Apollo” which will be included in the album. Also, speaking of LA – check out the remix of N.A.S.A’s “Music” by LA Riots (completely unrelated to the contest as far as I know). If any of you NZ producers are keen to give it a go the competition is open until the 27th of October, and dont forget LA Riots are giggin it at Studio in Auckland on the 29th!
